Awa Blou Dive Co.: a dive shop demo

Awa Blou is a fictional dive centre on Bonaire that we made up to show what a dive shop website can do. Everything on the demo works in your browser: book a dive, then see it land in the owner view.

The brief

We imagined a small dive shop north of Kralendijk. Guided shore dives, boat trips to Klein Bonaire, courses and snorkel tours, small groups and local guides. Its guests are a mix of experienced divers who know exactly what they want and beginners who don't know where to start.

The site had to do three jobs: show which trips still have room, help beginners choose, and take bookings without anyone answering the phone. In English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamentu.

What we built

The top of the page shows today's conditions next to the next boat and how many places are left on it. Below that, all trips sit in one list with filters for shore dives, boat dives, snorkeling and courses.

On Bonaire, dive sites are marked with yellow painted stones along the coast road. The demo turns that into an interactive map: tap a stone to see the depth, the level and what lives there, then book a dive at that site.

For beginners there is a three-question dive picker. Have you dived before, how much time do you have, and what would make your day? It answers with a trip to start with and a button to book it.

How the booking and owner view work

Booking takes six short steps: trip, date, time, people and gear, details, and a final check. Each time slot shows the places left, and full trips can't be booked. Guests add rental gear and their certification level, see the total, and confirm. They get a booking code and can add the dive to their calendar.

Open the owner view and the booking is already there, marked as new. The shop can confirm it, check guests in on the day, cancel, or message them on WhatsApp. A second tab shows today's trips with how many places are taken, and a third shows the week at a glance.

A WhatsApp button opens a chat with a ready-made message. A scripted chat assistant answers common questions about prices, turtles and opening hours. On a real site, that can be an AI assistant that answers day and night.

Design choices

The look comes from the island itself: lagoon blue, coral, and the bright yellow of the dive-site stones as the accent colour. A wide, bold display typeface gives the headlines some energy, with a calm, readable font for everything else.

As you scroll down the page, a depth gauge counts the metres, as if you are descending on a dive. The hero photo drifts slowly. All motion switches off for visitors who have reduced motion turned on in their phone settings.

What this means for a real dive shop

A real shop would get the same kind of site, built around its own trips, sites and way of working. Bookings would send real confirmations by email or WhatsApp, and the owner view would hold real guests instead of demo data.

The same setup works for snorkel trips, kayak tours and other operators who sell seats on a boat or a tour.
